Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, will be laid to rest in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday, following his death at the age of 66.
Hassan reportedly died at about 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
Veteran actor Jide Kosoko announced the burial arrangements in a post on Instagram, stating that the late actor’s remains would be transported to Ilaro on Sunday ahead of the lying-in-state ceremony scheduled for Monday.
The statement read, “With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of ALHAJI TAIWO HASSAN, popularly known as OGOGO, who passed away at 3:00 p.m. today Sunday, 23rd August 2026. At 66 years.
“His remains will be taken to his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State today where the lying-in-state ceremony will take place tomorrow.
“Date: Monday, 24th August 2026
“Time: 11:00 a.m.
“Venue: Pavillon, Ilaro, Ogun State.
“We pray that Almighty Allah grants him eternal rest and gives his family, friends, colleagues and loved ones the strength and fortitude to bear this great loss.
“May his soul rest in perfect peace. Ameen.”
The burial was also confirmed by Seun Oloketuyi, founder of Best of Nollywood, who shared a notice from the Ilaro Muslim Community.
The announcement stated: “INNALILLAHI WAINNA ILAIHI RAJI’UN.
“THE ILARO MUSLIM COMMUNITY WISHES TO ANNOUNCE THE BURIAL OF OUR BELOVED BROTHER, ALHAJI HASSAN TAIWO (OGOGO).
“Burial Prayer at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground. 10am.
“Announcer. Chief Imam Ilaro.”
Hassan’s death was earlier confirmed by multiple sources, including Oloketuyi, on Sunday.

The actor’s passing came just days after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, publicly appealed for medical assistance for their father, who was battling Stage 4 cancer.
The sisters had sought help on social media on Monday, August 17, after revealing the severity of his condition. Kaira said doctors had informed the family that they could no longer continue with chemotherapy because of his deteriorating health.
Hassan was one of the respected figures in the Yoruba film industry, with a career spanning several decades and numerous appearances in Nigerian films.
