A lone truck accident near Foursquare Camp on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on Monday left six people dead, 23 injured, and 29 cows killed, authorities have reported.
The crash involved a DAF CF 380 truck, painted white and blue with registration number SNA 287 XA, which was reportedly traveling from the northern part of the country toward Lagos State. The trailer was carrying passengers alongside approximately 35 cows. Preliminary reports suggest that fatigue and excessive speed may have caused the accident.
The injured and deceased were transported to Oreoluwa Hospital, GOFAMINT Camp, Ogunmakin, and Victory Hospital, Ogere.
Spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole, provided details in a statement to journalists.
He said, “The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ogun Sector Command reports a fatal road traffic crash (RTC) on the Ibadan–Lagos Expressway near the Foursquare Camp area earlier today. The incident occurred at about 11:27 hours, with a response time of two minutes before the rescue team from the FRSC Ogunmakin Unit Command arrived at the scene. A trailer (DAF CF 380, white and blue) with registration number SNA 287 XA was involved in the lone crash. A total of 29 persons were involved. Twenty-three persons were injured, while six persons were killed.”
Odunsi-Oyewole added, “This was a case of mixed loading of cattle and passengers. FRSC discourages this practice because there is no segregation between goods and humans. In the event of a crash, it is difficult to separate humans from goods, which may eventually lead to loss of lives.”

The FRSC confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact mechanical and contributing factors behind the crash.
Motorists were urged to regularly service and inspect commercial vehicles, particularly heavy-duty trailers, maintain safe speeds, exercise proper vehicle control on expressways, and observe road safety rules. Drivers were also advised to take adequate rest to avoid fatigue while on long journeys.
