Seun Kuti, son of the legendary Afrobeat originator Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has responded after being targeted by a series of insults from Grammy Award-winning artiste Wizkid, amid a growing dispute sparked by comparisons between both musicians.
The disagreement started when Seun publicly called out Wizkid’s supporters for likening the singer to Fela, arguing that such parallels fail to recognise the depth of his father’s cultural influence and political activism.
Matters took a sharper turn on Tuesday night after Wizkid vented on his Instagram Stories, directing harsh words at Seun and asserting his own superiority over the late Afrobeat icon. In one of the posts, he wrote:
“@bigbirdkuti I’m Big Wiz everyday bigger than your papa!! Wetin u one do fool? Hungry bastard.”
The singer later extended his remarks to X, where he drew a comparison between Seun’s public stance and Fela’s revolutionary role, stating:
“Fela fight for freedom this fool dey fight for fc! Oloshi omo ale!”

Seun Kuti, however, responded without matching the hostility. Posting a screenshot of Wizkid’s message on Instagram, he offered a dry, sarcastic reply:
“Just be yourself short man. You are also great.”
The exchange has since dominated online conversations, with fans divided over issues of artistic legacy, respect for musical pioneers, and the evolving dynamics between generations within Nigeria’s music industry.
