What does the husband of a queen do? As the First Man, what are his roles?
Prince Phillip, The Duke of Edinburgh and husband to the longest reigning monarch and Queen of Great Britain, Queen Elizabeth II, is retiring from public life. This announcement was made know last week Thursday 4th May, 2017, at the Buckingham Place, where an emergency meeting of the entire staff of the royal family from all the castles was summoned.
The statement reads, “Prince Phillip will attend previously scheduled engagements between now and August, both individually and accompanying the Queen. Thereafter, the Duke will not be accepting new invitations for visits and engagements, although he may still choose to attend certain public events from time to time. The Duke of Edinburgh is Patron, President or a member of over 780 organizations, with which he will continue to be associated , although he will no longer play an active role attending engagements. Her Majesty will continue to carry out a full programme of official engagements with the support of members of the Royal family.”
Prince Phillip, who will be turning 96 on June 10th, will be celebrating his 70th wedding anniversary with Queen Elizabeth II in November, who is 91
