An aircraft carrying the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and some of his aides, crash-landed near the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. The aircraft involved was an HS 125 private jet operated by Flint Aero, and the incident occurred on a Friday night.
The flight had originated from Abuja at 18:41 hours and was transporting several high-ranking government officials. The crash-landing took place around 19:21 hours, with a total of ten individuals on board. Fortunately, there were no casualties, although the aircraft sustained significant damage.
According to a source, the pilot had been cleared for landing before the incident, and all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated. However, the aircraft itself suffered substantial damage.
Another source mentioned that the aircraft, with the registration number 5N-AMM, had initially contacted the control tower at 18:56, requesting an extension, which was granted by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA). The aircraft subsequently landed short of the runway threshold by approximately 50 meters and skidded into a bushy ditch near the runway.
This incident highlights the importance of safety procedures and the fortunate outcome of no casualties despite the aircraft’s substantial damage.
