Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, has been freed after spending roughly a week in police custody over a series of allegations.

Portable was arraigned on January 12 at a magistrate court in Ota, Ogun State, where he was charged with offences ranging from assault and theft to causing injury and resisting arrest. Authorities also accused him of unlawfully taking a Mercedes-Benz E300 reportedly valued at N12 million.

The court initially refused his bail application after the investigating police officer failed to appear, resulting in his continued detention.

News of his release later sparked celebrations among his close associates. In a video that circulated widely online, the singer was seen surrounded by supporters who enthusiastically welcomed him back. During the gathering, Portable jokingly announced a new nickname for himself, saying he should now be called “Innocenty.”

His manager, Baby Luv, also reacted via Instagram, where she shared a photo of the singer with his first wife, Bewaji, and expressed gratitude for her unwavering support throughout the legal ordeal.

“All glory to God. Grace spoke, mercy prevailed. #Freedom. She stayed when it was hardest. God honoured her faith #Thankful,” she wrote.

The incident adds to Portable’s long history of legal run-ins since his rise to prominence in 2022. Over the years, the singer has been arrested and detained multiple times across correctional facilities in Ogun, Lagos and Kwara states.
