The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three teenage girls suspected of involvement in an alleged kidnapping threat in Ikoyi-Ile, Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects were identified as Fathia Nurudeen, 17; Taiwo Fatai, 17; and Munirat Saliu, 16, according to a statement released on Friday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, in Ibadan.

Ayanlade disclosed that the arrest followed a complaint lodged by a resident of Ikoyi-Ile, Islamiat Omowumi, who reported receiving a threatening phone call from a private number on Friday, January 9, 2026.

Providing details of the operation, the police spokesperson said the report triggered an immediate response from the command. “The command wishes to inform members of the public of the successful arrest of suspected kidnappers following a threat report received by the command, demonstrating its commitment to proactive, intelligence-led and preventive policing,” he stated.

He explained that detectives swiftly launched an investigation using intelligence-driven methods, which led to the arrest of the three suspects. “In response, detectives of the command immediately swung into action, deploying intelligence-led investigative measures, which swiftly led to the arrest of three suspects, namely Fathia Nurudeen, 17; Taiwo Fatai, 17; and Munirat Saliu, 16,” Ayanlade added.

According to the police, the suspects admitted during interrogation that they made the threatening call, claiming it was intended as a prank. A small Itel mobile phone allegedly used to carry out the act was recovered from them, further supporting the investigation.

Ayanlade noted that the suspects are currently in police custody while investigations continue to establish the full circumstances of the incident and determine appropriate legal action in line with the law.

He also issued a warning to members of the public, especially young people, against engaging in actions capable of causing fear, panic, or threats to life, stressing that such behaviour amounts to serious criminal offences with grave legal consequences.

The Oyo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and urged residents to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
