Police Launch Investigation As Missing Abuja Undergraduate Found Deceased

An undergraduate student, Blessing Karami, who attended the National Open University of Nigeria in Abuja and had been reported missing since September 11, has been discovered dead in the woods located in the Karimo area of the Federal Capital Territory.

The police have announced their commitment to conducting a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding Blessing Karami’s tragic death.

Kemi Ashefon, the reporter on the case, revealed that the young woman had gone missing after leaving her workplace in the Garki area of Abuja before her usual closing time on September 11, 2023.

It has been confirmed that the Durumi Divisional Police Headquarters in Abuja has apprehended an individual named Aminu, who is reported to be the boyfriend of the deceased. He was taken in for questioning regarding her disappearance.

The elder brother of the deceased, Genesis Karami, informed the police that he received a suspicious call providing details about his sister’s body on Tuesday. However, this lead turned out to be false.

He explained, “The caller said he saw a female body in Idu, so we asked him to describe what she was wearing, and he told us exactly what we were told my sister wore to the office the day she went missing.” Mr. Karami reported this to the Durumi Divisional Police Headquarters on Wednesday.

Mr. Karami further shared with the press that after being unable to reach the Durumi Divisional Police Officer (DPO), he and a group of policemen went to the police station at Karmo. However, the caller kept changing locations and misleading them until they gave up. Later, they received confirmation of his sister’s death.

“We saw her decomposed body in the bush here at Karmo, it’s not something we can move. We have to arrange with the environmental people to come and help us pack. We cannot travel with it. We just have to bury it here. It seems she died for days due to the nature of the decomposition,” Mr. Karami revealed.

In response to this development, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that the police are determined to uncover both the immediate and underlying reasons behind Miss Karami’s tragic death.

Adeh said, “The body of Blessing Karami, a 26-year-old woman who had been missing since September 11, 2023, was tragically discovered in a wooded area in Karimo. Her disappearance was reported to the authorities on September 14, 2023.

“We wish to inform the public that our primary focus at this time, under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, FCT, Haruna Garba, is to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding Blessing Karami Moses’ untimely death. Our commitment to this case is unwavering, and we are determined to uncover both the immediate and remote causes of this tragic incident.

“While we are working closely with the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) to facilitate the respectful retrieval of the decomposed remains acknowledging the sensitive nature of this task, We will continue to provide updates to the public as our investigation progresses. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Blessing Karami Moses during this difficult time.”
