The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the fatal accident that occurred while conveying world boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, and two of his close associates.
The command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, made this known in a statement issued to journalists on Thursday, stating that the driver is currently in custody as investigations continue.
“The driver of the Lexus SUV in connection with the Anthony Joshua accident case is currently in custody. Investigations are ongoing,” the statement partly read.
The tragic incident reportedly happened on Monday at about 11am around the Danco axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The Lexus SUV, with registration number KRD 850 HN, was said to have crashed into a stationary truck.
Two occupants of the vehicle lost their lives in the accident. They were later identified as Ayodele Kelvin Olu, 36, a Nigerian-British citizen, and Gami Sina, also 36, a British national.

Meanwhile, the Lagos and Ogun state governments have confirmed that Anthony Joshua has been discharged from the hospital following the crash. This was contained in a joint statement released on Wednesday and signed by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to Ogun State Governor, Mr Kayode Akinmade, and the Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Mr Gbenga Omotosho.
The two state governments expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased, describing the incident as painful and deeply unfortunate. They offered prayers for the repose of the souls of the departed and asked God to grant their loved ones the strength to cope with the loss.
According to the statement, Anthony Joshua and his mother visited a funeral home in Lagos on Wednesday to pay their last respects to the deceased friends, whose bodies were being prepared for repatriation later that evening.
The governments further disclosed that Joshua was discharged from Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, late on Wednesday after doctors certified him fit to continue his recovery from home.
Governors Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State also expressed appreciation to Nigerians for the outpouring of prayers, concern and goodwill shown since the incident.
They additionally thanked President Bola Tinubu for what they described as his fatherly support throughout the period, and commended the medical team at Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, for their professionalism, dedication and quality of care given to Anthony Joshua and other victims of the crash.
