The Nigeria Police Force has arrested Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-acclaimed Director-General of the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), in Osun State, only hours after a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered his arrest.
The arrest followed a bench warrant issued by Justice Muhammed Umar after Adeyemi failed to appear in court to face charges of forgery, fraud and impersonation.
Justice Umar granted the prosecution’s request on Tuesday after prosecutor Wisdom Madaki informed the court that the defendant had repeatedly failed to honour court appearances despite several adjournments.
Adeyemi was expected to take his plea on an eight-count charge, but although the matter was listed as number 12 on the day’s cause list, he was absent when it was called.
His lawyer, Genesis Francis, was present and announced his appearance for the defendant.
While requesting the court to issue a warrant, Madaki argued that Adeyemi’s repeated absence had stalled the commencement of the trial.

“My lord, this is the fifth time this case is coming up, and all the adjournments have been at the instance of the defendant,” Madaki told the court.
The prosecutor, relying on Section 394 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015, argued that Adeyemi’s continued failure to appear justified the issuance of a bench warrant, a request the court subsequently granted.
