A fire outbreak occurred on Thursday at a multi-storey building housing a Polaris Bank branch on Broad Street, Lagos Island.
Videos circulating on social media showed thick smoke rising from the building as residents, traders, and passers-by gathered at the scene.
Emergency responders, including firefighters, were quickly deployed to the location to bring the blaze under control and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire had not yet been established.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Polaris Bank confirmed that the incident affected the car park of its Broad Street branch and was swiftly contained.
The bank also assured the public that no lives were lost in the incident.
“Following the fire incident at the Car Park of our Broad Street Branch, Lagos, we are pleased to confirm that the situation was swiftly contained and, thankfully, there were no casualties or fatalities,” the statement reads.
“We appreciate the prompt response of emergency services.”
Polaris Bank also dismissed viral reports claiming that 34 people died in the fire, describing them as false and misleading.

The bank urged the public to ignore unverified information circulating online and rely only on official communication channels and credible media outlets.
“We urge the public to rely only on credible news platform and our official channels for accurate information and disregard false reports circulating online,” the statement added.
