Though she is Oloori Sekinat Aramide Elegushi, its not wrong to say she is Alice, who is living in her wonderland.
Yes, Queen Elegushi is living her dreams as she celebrates 44 years today, November 10.
Oloori Aramide Sekinat Elegushi, the beautiful wife of Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi (Kusenla III) was born 44 years ago as Miss Ipaye.
A graduate of Accountancy from the University of Lagos, she is blessed with an ebullient nature coupled with humble dispositions.
Indeed, this has allowed her gradually build an enviable reputation as the most stylish queen in Nigeria— she always stands out whenever she steps out at an event
As she marks her 44th birthday today, Owambevibes highlights her dreams, desires and an unflinching drive to make a difference with her position as a queen.
Owambevibes: Are there still things you desire in life?
I pray for long life to see my husband continue to do well, his kingdom peaceful and developing. I pray to see my girls achieve great feats and become great women in the larger world. In the area of style and fashion, I want to start producing my own perfume and sell them out to the bigger market and I also plan to open a fabric shop too. This is to continue the legacy of my late mum.
Queen Sekinat Elegushi Foundation
I will not hesitate to describe what I do as
an act of philanthropy. It is just my humble way of giving back to the society.
We are in an era, where most people are driven by the urge to be socially
responsible to humanity and one’s immediate environment. In the past,
charitable giving wasn’t focused enough on the poor and the needy. Besides, it
used to be an exclusive preserve of the very rich. But things have since
changed. People are getting more sympathetic towards supporting the needy. You
don’t even have to have millions of naira to support people who are in need. I
must say that I am impressed by how Nigerians have become more charitable and
supportive of worthy causes. My husband and I are united in the act of giving
back to the society mentality, and we strive to show this as often as we can.
We run an education trust that is responsible for children’s education within
the Ikate Kingdom. My husband and I are custodians of arts and culture. It is
an avenue through which we support a number of artists. I am a huge fan of the
renowned Nike Art gallery. In my own little way, I seek to advocate for women
and youth empowerment. I am also actively involved in the International Women’s
Society (IWS) Skills Centre in Ikate. The centre has trained thousands of
students. I also pray I am able to achieve more with the
Foundation. We want to reach as many
vulnerable women as possible, within and outside our kingdom. I hope to be part of a society where women,
regardless of their social or marital status, are not allowed to suffer.
Floating An Event Centre, The Monarch
In October, 2020, the queen opened an imposing event centre, The Monarch, which is situated along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, amidst jubilations by indigenes and visitors. The event centre, which sits on over a 10,000sqm of land overlooking the palace, is a one-stop-shop for those seeking to hold a memorable event. The masterpiece architectural design, with a top-of-the-range interior décor, shopped from the biggest designers around the globe has over a 500-capacity car park.
No doubt, The Monarch is set to change the face of event centres along the fast-growing Eti-Osa and Lekki areas in Lagos, a city of aquatic splendour.
She revealed, “I’ve always wanted a place where events would not only take place but which would always make a difference in terms of service delivery. I When I mooted the idea with my husband, he keyed into the vision and supported it wholeheartedly.
The popular Olori with an uncommon heart of gold is also a firm believer in the popular saying that “no one has ever become poor by giving and that the happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more because it is every man’s obligation to put back into the world at least the equivalent of what he takes out of it.”
Passion
Oba Elegushi and Oloori Aramide are childhood sweethearts. They met during their undergraduate days in Lagos. The bond they shared was so strong back then that their friends knew that it would result into marriage. 17 years down the line, the bond keeps waxing stronger and the couple seems determined to maintain that tempo of love. The union is blessed with three children.
