Former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has reportedly entered the Assembly complex on Thursday in what appears to be a dramatic power tussle.
Obasa, who arrived at the premises around 12 noon, was said to be accompanied by security officials, heading straight to the Speaker’s Office.
Context of the Crisis
This development comes shortly after the security aides attached to the current Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, were withdrawn, raising concerns over her vulnerability.
Confirming the incident, Segun Ajiboye, Chief Press Secretary to Meranda, accused Obasa and his team of forcefully breaking into the Speaker’s Office.
“We’re at the Assembly now,” a source in Obasa’s camp confirmed.
This move further escalates the ongoing leadership crisis within the Lagos Assembly, following reports that a mediation panel had recommended the resignation of both Obasa and Meranda to pave the way for a new Speaker.
As tensions rise, all eyes remain on how the Assembly and key stakeholders will resolve the unfolding political drama.
More details to follow.
