Osun State Governor and Accord Party candidate, Ademola Adeleke, has secured victory in 19 of the state’s 30 Local Government Areas in the Saturday governorship election.
His closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, won in the remaining 11 LGAs.
Adeleke is still awaiting the formal declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with the final results expected to be announced after the completion of the collation process.
Fifteen political parties contested the election, although the race largely became a contest between Adeleke of the Accord Party and Oyebamiji of the APC.
The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished a distant third with 14,989 votes.
The final declaration is expected to be made by the Returning Officer, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Prof Joshua Ogunwole, at the INEC state collation centre in Osogbo.
