Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Head of State Yakubu Gowon, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha on Friday attended the funeral of former Head of Nigeria’s Interim Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan in Lagos.

The funeral service was held at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina.

Also in attendance were the minister of information Lai Mohammed, governors of Lagos, Ogun and Edo states, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Dapo Abiodun, and Godwin Obaseki respectively.

Former governor of Ogun State Ibikunle Amosun was also present.

Born on May 9, 1936, Shonekan served as the head of Interim National Government between August and November 1993.

He died on January 11, 2022, at the age of 86.

Shonekan obtained a law degree from the University of London and was called to the bar, after which he attended Harvard Business School.

The late statesman joined the UAC in 1964, rose through the ranks in the company and was promoted to an assistant legal adviser. He later became a deputy adviser and joined the board of directors at the age of 40.

He was made Chairman/Managing Director in 1980.
