On Monday, 22 March 2019, society matriarch and doyenne of fashion, Princess Abah Zainab Folawiyo, played host to a galaxy of personalities, who gathered to witness the traditional marriage ceremony of her granddaughter.
The ceremony involved Oluwaseun Awolowo and Akintoye Bode-Kayode.
The traditional and engagement ceremony which held at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, had the colour of the day as purple.
Friends of the bride’s father also adorned the iconic Awo fez caps, as a mark of honour to the great Sage.
Present were governors of Oyo, Ekiti states—Senator Abiola Ajimobi and Dr Kayode Fayemi.
It was also graced by dignitaries such as billionaire Femi Otedola, Dele Momodu, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Dapo Abiodun and many others.
Aunt of the bride, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo, who is the wife of the Vice President was available to receive guests.
The bride, Oluwaseun is the first daughter of Prince Segun Awolowo, the Executive Director/CEO, Nigerian Exports Promotion Council and first grandson of the great Sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Her mother, Bola (née Fowora), a lawyer by training, is the daughter of the late Engineer Amos Adeoye Fowora, a foremost Nigerian Civil Engineer,
The groom, Akintoye is the son of late Olabode Kayode. His mother, Osayomwanbo ‘Bobo’ Bode-Kayode, Nee Giwa-Osagie, passed on, on December 20, 2018, and was buried in London on January 11th at All Souls Church, Langham Place, Regent Street. Bobo, as she was fondly called, was a reproductive biochemist, specialising in assisted reproduction. She trained in Human IVF Embryology, and joined her elder brother, Professor Osato Giwa-Osagie in his work on human IVF and assisted conception at the Advanced Fertility Centre at Omni Medical Centre in Lagos, where she was the Executive Director and Chief Embryologist. She was the first female human IVF Embryologist in West Africa, beginning her work in this area in 1988.
The bride, Seun, is part of the management and strategy team for real estate at Goldman Sachs. She holds a degree in Politics and International Studies from Warwick University. She is a motivational speaker and runs an NGO called Teach-A-Girl Nigeria, which focuses on Girl Child education in Nigeria with seven other incredible ladies. She is also the founder of Leads Africa and 3D Living Moments. The groom, Toye, is an account manager with SmartTransit USA, operators of Smart Metro and Safe Rail. He is also the founder of a lifestyle start-up, Neocove. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Reading.
