Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has assured the Confederation of African Football (CAF) of the state government’s commitment to ensuring the successful hosting of the 2026 CAF Awards in Lagos.
The prestigious ceremony is scheduled to hold in Lagos on December 7.
Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance on Sunday when he received a CAF delegation led by the Project Lead for the CAF Awards and CAF General Assembly, Dr Christian Emeruwa, during a courtesy visit to Lagos House, Marina.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu said the state would give priority to critical aspects of the event, including security, logistics, branding and access to the proposed venue.
The governor described Lagos as a major commercial, cultural, entertainment and technology centre in Africa, noting that its diverse population, youthful demographic and economic importance made it suitable for hosting major international events.
He added that the state was committed to ensuring a positive experience for CAF officials, football stakeholders and visitors attending the ceremony.
According to him, the event would also provide an avenue for Lagos to demonstrate its hospitality and capacity to successfully host high-profile international engagements.
Speaking during the meeting, Emeruwa disclosed that the CAF delegation was in Nigeria for a five-day assessment mission ahead of the awards ceremony in Lagos and the CAF General Assembly scheduled for Abuja.
He explained that the inspection would involve evaluating proposed venues and reviewing the level of preparedness for both events.

He noted that the December 7 ceremony would bring together leading personalities from African and global football, including representatives of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and other international guests.
The CAF project lead also sought the support of the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) in promoting the event and facilitating branding across the state.
He further requested that security arrangements for the ceremony be coordinated by the Lagos State Government alongside CAF’s security team.
