A building collapse in the Fadeyi area of Lagos has claimed the life of one person and left three others injured.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday at a two-storey building under construction on Akinola Street, near Fadeyi bus stop, along Ikorodu Road.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said it received an emergency call at about 12:10am, prompting the immediate deployment of its Cobra Response Team from the Onipanu base.
In a statement, the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said rescuers began search and rescue operations upon arriving at the scene, using an excavator to reach people trapped beneath the debris.
By 3:33am, three adult men had been pulled out alive, while the body of another man was recovered from the rubble.
The survivors, who were working at the construction site when the building collapsed, received initial medical attention from LASEMA paramedics and the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS).
They were subsequently transported to a hospital for further treatment.
Oke-Osanyintolu noted that rescue efforts were still underway to establish whether other workers remained trapped beneath the collapsed structure.
