Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has once again harvested vegetables from her garden at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, renewing her appeal for Nigerians to cultivate food at home as a way of strengthening food security.
According to the Nigerian Television Authority in a post shared on X, the First Lady visited the garden on Monday for another harvest from the vegetable plot established about two years ago under the Every Home A Garden initiative.
The report stated that the garden continues to produce a variety of vegetables, including spinach, waterleaf and fluted pumpkin.
After the harvest, the First Lady distributed some of the vegetables to members of her staff, encouraging Nigerians to embrace kindness by sharing with others.
The vegetable garden was unveiled by Mrs Tinubu in July 2024 as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative, a programme aimed at encouraging household farming and improving food security at a time of rising food prices.
The launch also featured the Every Home A Garden competition, which was created to motivate women and families across the country to grow vegetables in their homes.

At the inauguration of the project, the First Lady explained that the garden was designed to demonstrate that even limited spaces around homes could be used to cultivate nutritious food while helping families reduce feeding costs.
Since its establishment, the garden has produced crops such as spinach, waterleaf, bitter leaf, scent leaf, ewedu, okra and lemongrass, reinforcing the First Lady’s campaign for healthy living, home-based farming and environmental sustainability.
