An Ogun State High Court sitting in Kobape, Abeokuta, has sentenced Lekan Adekanbi, Ahmed Odetola, and Waheed Adeniyi to death by hanging for the brutal murder of Kehinde Fatinoye, his wife, Bukola Fatinoye, and their son, Oreoluwa, on January 1, 2023.

Ogun State High Court: The trio attacked the family at their Ibara GRA residence shortly after they returned from a crossover service. Led by their driver, Adekanbi, the assailants killed the couple, set their house ablaze, and threw their son and adopted son into the Ogun River. While the adopted son miraculously escaped, Oreoluwa did not survive.
Ogun State High Court: During his confession, Adekanbi revealed that he orchestrated the attack because the Fatinoyes refused to increase his salary or grant him a loan to buy a motorcycle. He enlisted Odetola and Adeniyi to help rob the couple.
At gunpoint, Kehinde Fatinoye was forced to transfer N1.1 million to Adekanbi’s account. Realizing his identity had been exposed, the trio decided to kill the family. Adeniyi used a knife to slaughter Kehinde, while Adekanbi struck Bukola with a sledgehammer, killing her instantly.
After the gruesome murders, the killers tied up Oreoluwa and the adopted son before throwing them into the river. Only the adopted son survived.
Ogun State High Court: The convicts, along with six others, faced 24 charges ranging from armed robbery and murder to arson and obstruction of justice.
Delivering judgment, Justice Basirat Adebowale ruled that the prosecution had proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
“You, Adekanbi, Odetola, and Adeniyi, for killing a father, mother, and son, do not deserve mercy. You are hereby sentenced to be hanged by the neck until you are dead or by lethal injection. May God have mercy on your souls,” she declared.
Other sentences:
- Temitope Fadairo (Adekanbi’s wife): 2 years imprisonment for hiding him.
- Adenike Adekanbi (Adekanbi’s mother): 1-year imprisonment for giving false statements.
- Azeez Usman (welder who dismantled the stolen car): 14 years imprisonment.
- Anuoluwapo Owolaja: 2 years imprisonment.
- Abass Odetola and Lukmon Adewusi: Discharged.
The brutal killings shocked the Ogun State community, with justice now served for the slain Fatinoye family.
