Nigerian Army: Tragedy struck in the early hours of Friday as a suspected drunk driver rammed into a group of soldiers attached to Myoung Barracks in the Morocco area of Shomolu, Lagos, leaving four feared dead and several others injured.

According to eyewitnesses, the soldiers were engaged in their routine monthly road jogging exercise when a speeding Toyota vehicle carrying three young men lost control and plowed into them.
A resident, Priscilla, who witnessed the incident, recounted that the occupants of the vehicle attempted to flee but were apprehended and severely beaten by bystanders, with their vehicle also vandalized.
“The young men tried to run after hitting the soldiers, but they were caught and beaten to a stupor. One of them was even stabbed in the process,” she narrated.
The incident has reportedly triggered panic in the area, with security personnel yet to issue an official statement.
Efforts to reach the Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Olabisi Ayeni, and the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, have so far been unsuccessful.
