Given his age and weight, and the increasing number of fatalities among prominent Nigerians from the pandemic, there was, understandably, profound fear among those who know him.

But unadulterated joy has blossomed in the bosoms of relatives, friends and associates of successful businessman and chairman of MultiChoice, Adewunmi Ogunsanya, popularly called Erujeje. The beefy lawyer (a Senior Advocate of Nigeria) was reported to have tested positive for COVID-19 some weeks ago.

As luck would have it, he has tested negative and is now back to good health.

The news has sent his people rejoicing and felicitating with him, as many have turned his fetching mansion in Banana Island into a Mecca of sorts. Interestingly, Ogunsanya, who lost his wife, Moji, in 2014 to complications from cancer, through MultiChoice Nigeria, owners of Digital Satellite Television (DStv), had announced a commitment of N1.2 billion to support Nigeria in fighting the deadly coronavirus.

The South Africa-owned satellite television service provider stated then that it would be assisting the Federal and Lagos Governments’ efforts in ameliorating the impact of the Covid-19 outbreak in Africa’s most populous nation through several initiatives.

“We are doing this because we recognize the impact that the Covid-19 pandemic has on Nigerians and the economy. We hope our contributions to the NCDC, Federal and State Governments will go a long way towards effective management of the outbreak,” Ogunsanya, as Chairman MultiChoice Nigeria, said.

He added, “The donation is of 10,000 certified test kits to the NCDC, public service announcement Covid-19 prevention tips in English, Pidgin, Ibo, Yoruba and Hausa languages as well as approved inventory worth over N550 million highlighting the NCDC’s Covid-19 Helplines and PSAs on more than 10 channels across DSTv and GOTv.”
