Mohbad: Sympathizers Reportedly Dispersed With Tear Gas At Lekki Tollgate During Singer’s Burial

Protesters and Fans of Late Singer Mohbad Allegedly Dispersed with Tear Gas at Lekki Tollgate”

On Thursday night 21st Of September, 2023, protesters and fans of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, were reportedly dispersed with tear gas at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos State.

The protesters had organized a candlelight procession in honor of the late singer, with the management of the deceased announcing the event earlier in the week and expressing their gratitude to fans worldwide for their love and support.

During the procession, participants, dressed in white T-shirts, played and danced to Mohbad’s songs as a final tribute to the artist.

However, according to a video shared by popular skit maker Oluwadolaz, someone claimed, “We have been dispersed with tear gas…”

While some witnesses stated that the tear gas canisters were fired by police officers in the state, a video seen through actress Iyabo Ojo’s Instagram live video had one of the attendees saying, “I came out for my brother, Mohbad. This is the cabman who helped me. They fired tear gas.

These people came from the back. We don’t know them. I don’t even know them. All the police officers were there securing us.”

Another lady explained, “We were sitting in front of the tollgate. We had a lot of police officers there. So, where the tear gas came from, we don’t see it. We just saw the tear gas from the back. No car could move. It was this cab that helped us.”

Meanwhile, a post by popular On-Air Personality, Do2dtun, on his social media handle read, “Honesty over Honesty Nigerians do not listen.

WE DO THE MOST. This procession ended at Muri Okunola Park over 3 hours ago. We ended, and all left. Some still went to converge at the Lekki toll gate. It is not a protest. It is a CANDLELIGHT PROCESSION.”

The candlelight procession, which began at 5 pm, was organized by the management of the late singer, while a tribute concert started at 8 pm at Muri Okunola Park.

Efforts to reach the police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, proved unsuccessful as he did not answer his calls or respond to text messages at the time of this report.
