The publisher of The Eagle Online, Oladotun Samson Oladipo, was laid to rest in Lagos on Friday as family members, friends and colleagues from the media industry gathered to pay their final respects.
Oladipo, a former Political Editor of PUNCH Newspaper and founder of The Eagle Online, died on August 25 at the age of 56 after reportedly falling ill.
His death came unexpectedly, with no previous illness or incident reported before his passing, according to The Eagle Online.
The funeral service was held at Stella Hall, Oregun, Ikeja, where Pastor Solomon Akpande delivered a sermon titled “Make your life count.”
Akpande urged those present to make meaningful use of their time and live purposefully, stressing the uncertainty and brevity of life.
“Whatever good conduct anybody needs to do, such should be dispensed without procrastination,” Akpande said, according to The Eagle Online.
The pastor reminded the mourners that “days are few and numbered”, encouraging them to act with urgency rather than postpone important acts of kindness and good conduct.
He also urged those in attendance, particularly those in positions of leadership, to place value on humanity in their interactions with others.
Akpande assured Oladipo’s family of continued divine support, telling them that “God would not forsake them.”
He added that the impact of Oladipo’s work and the fruits of his labour would continue to benefit his family.

During the service, family members, friends and former colleagues remembered the deceased journalist for his humility, kindness and dedication to his work.
Oladipo was a prominent figure in Nigeria’s digital media industry. He served as president of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers between 2017 and 2021 and was also a member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors.
His death attracted condolences from prominent Nigerians, including President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
