Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 election in Kebbi State.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Mohammed Doka, the former minister’s special assistant on media, and shared via Malami’s official X account.
According to the statement, Malami expressed appreciation to party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters for the confidence reposed in him ahead of the forthcoming governorship race.
Doka also confirmed that the ADC selected other candidates for key senatorial positions in the state. Retired military officer Aminu Bande was named candidate for Kebbi Central, while Ibrahim Mera, a former deputy comptroller-general, secured the Kebbi North ticket. Garba Danjuma emerged as the party’s flagbearer for Kebbi South.
The statement added that Malami remains committed to what it described as “purposeful leadership, good governance, justice, security, and sustainable development for Kebbi State and Nigeria as a whole.”

It further quoted him saying, “Together, with unity and determination, we shall build a more prosperous future for generations to come.”
Meanwhile, the former justice minister is currently facing legal challenges, as he is standing trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja over separate charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS).
In January, the court also ordered the interim forfeiture of 57 properties allegedly linked to Malami and two of his sons, Abdulaziz Malami and Abiru Rahman Malami, over suspected proceeds of unlawful activities.
