The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained popular TikTok influencer Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, following a live-streamed incident that ended in a road crash.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the police said the arrest followed the viral video posted by Peller on Sunday, which showed him attempting to take his own life and endangering the safety of others.

The case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

According to the police, “The outcome of the investigation will be made public, and the suspect will be charged in the court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law.”

In response to the incident, Police Commissioner Olohundare Jimoh issued a warning to social media influencers and content creators, urging them to avoid promoting unsafe behaviour online.

He said, “Social media platforms must not be used to engage in or promote reckless, dangerous, or unlawful and criminal acts. Such lawlessness will not be tolerated, and the full weight of the law will be applied to any offender.”

The command reiterated its commitment to enforcing the law and ensuring public safety on Lagos roads.
