Nigeria’s entertainment industry has been hit by the death of veteran Juju and Highlife musician Iyun Janet Ajilore, popularly known as St. Janet.
The singer reportedly passed away on Saturday after a brief illness, bringing an end to a career that made her one of the familiar faces in Nigeria’s Juju music scene.
The news was made public on Sunday by publisher and socialite Otunba Femi Davies through a post on his Facebook page.
Confirming the development, Davies wrote, “St Janet (Iyun Janet Ajilore), a popular Nigerian Juju and Highlife musician known for her vibrant live performances, energetic stage presence and socially unfiltered party tracks, is dead. She died after a brief illness on Saturday.”
Renowned for her energetic live performances, St. Janet built a loyal following with songs that became regular features at parties, ceremonies and other social gatherings.
