President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Saudi Arabia ahead of his planned pilgrimage to Makkah, where he will perform Umrah, commonly referred to as the lesser hajj.
The president arrived at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah on Thursday evening and was welcomed by Nigeria’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Yakubu Gambo, alongside the country’s head of royal protocol, Ahmad bin Thafir.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga had earlier announced the trip in a statement issued on Wednesday, explaining that the visit would provide Tinubu with an opportunity for “spiritual reflection, devotion, and prayers for Nigeria’s peace, unity, stability, and continued progress”.
According to Onanuga, the president will observe the religious rites of Umrah while in Makkah and pray for divine guidance and blessings for the country.
