Stella Nwadigo’s arrest followed the circulation of a viral video showing her repeatedly slapping the child during a lesson on how to write the number six.

The incident sparked widespread outrage, prompting action from the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA).

During Thursday’s hearing, Nwadigo pleaded not guilty to the charges of assault leveled against her. The court granted her bail at ₦200,000 with two verifiable sureties. Pending her compliance with the bail conditions, she has been remanded in a correctional facility.

The DSVA confirmed the case’s adjournment to January 18, 2024, for trial.

The school’s management has since suspended Nwadigo, while the victim, Abayomi, was reportedly hospitalized due to injuries sustained during the assault.

This case has reignited public discussions about the protection of children in schools and accountability for abusive behavior by educators.
