Hundreds of protesters under the banner of the Take-It-Back Movement gathered at Mokola Roundabout in Ibadan on Monday to demand stronger action against insecurity and the rescue of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The demonstrators marched through the area carrying placards and chanting slogans, urging authorities to prioritise the safety of residents and secure the release of those still being held captive.

Among the messages displayed were calls for improved security, safer communities, protection for students and farmers, and an end to the rising wave of kidnappings in the state.

Speaking during the protest, one of the participants expressed frustration over the security situation in the country, insisting that many Nigerians no longer feel safe.

“Let them know that the people of Nigeria are not at peace. Let them know that the people of Oyo State are not smiling. Let them know that the Nigerian people are fed up with insecurity,” the protester said.

The demonstration was sparked by the recent abduction of pupils and teachers following attacks on schools and nearby settlements in the Ahoro-Esiele area of Oriire Local Government.

The incident has generated widespread concern among residents, with parents and community members continuing to demand urgent intervention from the government and security agencies.

Families of the victims have repeatedly appealed for intensified rescue efforts, expressing concern over the length of time their loved ones have remained in captivity.

The protest reflects growing public dissatisfaction over recurring cases of kidnapping in Oyo State and increasing pressure on authorities to improve security across affected communities.
