Late Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe, has been associated with ownership of 106 properties in London, according to a report by The Londoner.

The report, titled “Revealed: The billionaires who really own London,” exposed the hidden overseas owners of about 32,000 real estate assets across the city. It noted that a recent change in the law has made it possible to identify the real owners behind foreign companies by mandating proper disclosure.

According to the publication, 2,224 of London’s most valuable and well-known properties are registered under companies based in St Helier, Jersey — a British island widely regarded as a tax haven.

Wigwe was ranked seventh on the list of property owners, with 106 properties attributed to him. Others ranked ahead of him include John Corless, Sarah Bard, Simon Reuben, Alexander Bard, Rit Thirakomen, and Wolfgang Peter Egger.

The late banker tragically died on February 9, 2024, in a helicopter crash in California near the Nevada border. His wife, son, and former Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), Abimbola Ogunbanjo, were also among those who lost their lives in the crash.

All six occupants were confirmed dead after the incident.

A final report by the United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), cited by TheCable, concluded that the crash was caused by the pilot’s decision to continue flying under visual flight rules into instrument meteorological conditions.

Since his passing, Wigwe’s family has reportedly been involved in legal disputes over his estate. In February 2025, The Punch reported that his father, Shyngle Wigwe, and his cousin, Christian Wigwe, filed an appeal challenging a Lagos State High Court ruling relating to the estate.
