Irish chef Alan Fisher, based in Japan, has achieved two Guinness World Records for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, surpassing the previous records set by Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci and American baker Wendy Sandner.
Alan Fisher’s remarkable achievement was announced on the official Guinness World Records Twitter page. Firstly, he secured the record for the longest individual cooking marathon, with an impressive time of 119 hours and 57 minutes, surpassing the previous record set by Hilda Baci earlier this year (93 hours and 11 minutes).
Additionally, Fisher claimed the record for the longest baking marathon, having baked continuously for 47 hours and 21 minutes, surpassing the previous record held by American baker Wendy Sandner (31 hours and 16 minutes). Notably, Fisher undertook both record attempts consecutively, dedicating more than 160 continuous hours in the kitchen.
Alan Fisher’s journey began when he learned about the longest cooking marathon record while participating in the “I Love Ireland” festival in Tokyo in March. During this festival, he spent two nights inside a rented kitchen car. Inspired by this, he decided to research the record online, finding that it was held by Lata Tondon of India, who had achieved a time of 87 hours and 45 minutes. Later, he learned that Hilda Baci had set a new record of 93 hours and 11 minutes in May.
Fisher accomplished these remarkable feats at his restaurant, Kyojin Stewhouse, which specializes in Irish cuisine. His motivation to take on this challenge was driven by the difficulties his business faced due to the pandemic.
To set these records, the chef cooked over 550 kg of food, preparing a total of 3,360 servings of 32 traditional Irish dishes. Alan Fisher credited the unwavering support from his local community for keeping him motivated, even during moments of fatigue and hallucinations.
