The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has selected Mogaji Olusegun Agboola as its candidate for the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.
Agboola was chosen during a substitution plenary held in Ibadan on Tuesday, where the party formally approved the replacement of its former candidate, Michael Okunlade.
The SDP said the development marked an important stage in its preparations for the election, tasking Agboola with consolidating the party’s structures, resolving internal disagreements and expanding its campaign across all 33 local government areas of the state.
Speaking after his emergence, Agboola said the party’s objective was to win the governorship election rather than enter into negotiations or political arrangements with other parties.
“The SDP is here to stay and our intention is to take over this state. There’s no negotiation on the table as far as we are concerned,” he said.
The new candidate also promised to adopt a different model of governance if elected, arguing that Oyo State needed to move away from traditional approaches to administration.
“Our administration will focus on developing Oyo State’s human and material resources by creating systems that will help residents turn their skills and abilities into sustainable economic opportunities,” Agboola said.
Agboola further challenged other governorship candidates to participate in a public debate focused on their policies and plans for the state.

He also called on dissatisfied members of the SDP to return to the party, assuring them that his administration of the party would embrace an open-door approach.
Okunlade, who previously represented the SDP as its governorship candidate, congratulated Agboola on his emergence and described the substitution as a significant development for the party.
He also commended members for conducting the exercise peacefully and expressed appreciation to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for overseeing the process.
