Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the state executive council, directing all commissioners and special advisers to vacate their positions with immediate effect.
The decision was announced in a statement released late Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi. According to the statement, the governor instructed all affected officials to hand over to the permanent secretaries or the most senior officers in their respective ministries.
Fubara expressed appreciation to the outgoing cabinet members for their contributions to governance in the state and wished them success in their future pursuits.
The move comes shortly after President Bola Tinubu stepped in to mediate the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State, which had been marked by intense rivalry between the executive and the House of Assembly, threats of impeachment, and deep divisions within the legislature.
A majority of the lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly are known to be loyal to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Wike, who recently campaigned against Fubara’s re-election ambition, had accused the governor of violating a peace agreement they jointly signed before Tinubu lifted the emergency rule earlier imposed on the state.
Earlier this week, Wike disclosed that Tinubu had once again intervened in the political impasse, expressing optimism that the lingering dispute between the executive and legislative arms would finally be resolved.
