The Nigerian Army has confirmed the rescue of five abducted persons in Kogi State after suspected terrorists reportedly abandoned them while escaping intensified military operations targeting criminal hideouts in the area.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 12 Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi.
According to the Army, the rescue followed sustained military action involving coordinated air and ground operations against terrorist camps located in forested parts of the state.
Abdullahi explained that troops attached to the Forward Operating Base in Oshokoshoko were deployed on a blocking operation along the Oshokoshoko–Adankolo axis within the Adankolo Forest after an air interdiction mission targeted a known criminal enclave.
During the operation, soldiers discovered five kidnap victims who had allegedly been left behind by their abductors as they retreated from the advancing troops.

The Army spokesman stated that preliminary findings showed the kidnappers abandoned the victims after coming under heavy pressure from the ongoing offensive.
He added that the military operation disrupted the group’s activities and forced members of the criminal network to scatter in different directions in an effort to avoid arrest.
