Bruno Fernandes etched his name into Premier League history after setting a new single-season assist record during Manchester United’s 3-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.

The Portuguese midfielder registered his 21st assist of the campaign after setting up Patrick Dorgu’s opening goal at the AMEX Stadium, surpassing the previous record of 20 jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.

Fernandes delivered a precise corner kick in the 30th minute, which Dorgu converted to hand the midfielder sole ownership of the record.

The 31-year-old later capped off the match with a goal of his own as United closed the season with an emphatic away victory under coach Michael Carrick.

Fernandes, who was recently named Premier League Player of the Season, recorded 14 of his assists during Carrick’s tenure, with 10 coming from set-piece situations.

Elsewhere, West Ham United were relegated from the Premier League despite defeating Leeds United 3-0 at the London Stadium.

The result was not enough to save the Hammers, as Tottenham Hotspur secured survival with a narrow 1-0 victory over Everton.

West Ham now join Wolverhampton Wanderers and Burnley in the Championship next season, ending their 14-year stay in the top flight.

Meanwhile, newly crowned champions Arsenal celebrated their title triumph with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.

Goals from Gabriel Jesus and Noni Madueke secured the win, while Jean-Philippe Mateta scored a late consolation for Palace.

In another major result, Pep Guardiola’s final match as Manchester City manager ended in a 2-1 home defeat to Aston Villa.

Liverpool were also held to a 1-1 draw by Brentford at Anfield.

Other results saw Fulham beat Newcastle United 2-0, while Nottingham Forest played out a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth.

Sunderland also defeated Chelsea 2-1, while Burnley drew 1-1 with Wolves.
