Its quite puzzling that distinguished Senator Dino Melaye’s name cropped up lately and was romantically linked to popular Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo.
Like wildfire, the news spread that the politician was secretly engaged to the single mum of two and they planned getting married.
As expected, the Senator, who represented Kogi South Senatorial District at the Senate before losing his seat to Senator Smart Adeyemi when he sought re-election, took to social media to deny any secret dalliance with the actress.
Denying any secret engagement, Melaye wrote,” SDM is not a criminal and cannot have a secret engagement. People using me to promote their blogs & 4 publicity staunch will have to start paying. Match making 2 different pictures & writing rubbish now equal to engagement. Una no even fear 4 this Corona period..2nd base oo jare. Ohun to ba wu elenu lo le fi enu soo..efi won sile..eje kan ma so loo… (sic)”
Melaye’s marital status had always been the talk-of-the-town. He was married twice but divorced. He now lives alone with his three kids in his palatial mansion in Abuja.
However, dandy and boisterous Dino must have decided giving marriage a third chance when he dated Nollywood actress Bisi Ibidapo-Obe about eight years ago.
With Bisi, who he got to know through another actress, Lola Alao, Dino would travel down to Lagos from Abuja and paint the town red with Bisi,who everyone thought would replace his second wife who left him amidst much drama.
But the relationship hit the rock when pretty Bisi got pregnant and detractors started feeding the Kabba-born Senator with unpleasant tales about the actress’ affairs she had before meeting Dino.
Surprisingly, Lola Alao, the matchmaker, took sides with Dino who she refers to as her ‘brother’ because they are both from Kogi State.
It was a traumatic time for Bisi, who had never been pregnant. She, however, went ahead to keep the pregnancy and had a baby girl who she christened Precious Destiny Melaye. The senator refused to accept Destiny’s paternity and insisted on the actress going for a DNA test.
Seven years on, the two ex lovers (Dino and Bisi) aren’t on speaking terms.
Just as the dust was settling on the Bisi-Dino love episode, in May 2017 Nigerians woke up to see a post on Senator Dino’s Instagram handle where he posed with ex Big Brother Naija housemate, Tokunbo Idowu aka Tboss and the two laughing heartily.
It was May 15 at the Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja when the Senator had a book launch and invited political/society bigwigs.
Immediately a follower asked Senator Dino if he was one of the ‘private jet owners’ Tboss boasted about when she was in the Big Brother house, he deleted the photo.
But Tboss still posted her photo on her page and announced that she felt honoured to have been invited to such a gathering.
If Melaye thought that was the end of any discussion on Tboss, he got it wrong.
By 2019, when Tboss got pregnant and had a baby, all fingers pointed at the Kogi politician as the father of the cute baby girl.
When the ‘noise’ became unbearable, Senator Dino Melaye, took to social media to deny paternity of Tboss’s baby.
Not only did he say he was not the baby’s father, Dino also revealed he never dated Tboss.
Just like he did concerning Iyabo Ojo’s allegations, Melaye tweeted, “I naturally should ignore lies making the rounds that I’m the father of Tboss’s child. Every child is a blessing from heaven to every new mother and I congratulate TBoss on the new bundle of joy. As for the father, it’s not me. I never dated TBOSS. Olodos take note accordingly.” Even Tboss would deny any fling or affair with the ‘singing’ senator.
Still single and fathering his three kids alone, this love triangle could change curves before the year runs out when Senator Melaye Dino could be linked to another woman, probably another actress.
A generous man,Kemi Ashefon gathered that not a few women praying to be his wife, do we still nurse hope and see if Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo could still fill that vacancy at least she hasn’t really refuted their alleged engagement story.
Time will tell.
