A significant deployment of Nigerian Police officers is currently stationed at Magodo Estate, Lagos, where the law office of prominent legal figure Afe Babalola is located.
The increased police presence comes in anticipation of protests calling for the release of human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi, who was recently arrested on defamation charges filed by Babalola and transferred from Lagos to Ekiti State.
Despite being granted bail by the Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti for ₦50 million, Farotimi remains in custody, prompting the #FreeDeleFarotimiNow campaign, which is supported by former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore.
Protests are planned for Tuesday in multiple locations, including Lagos, Ekiti, Abuja, and London.
Reports indicate that armed police officers have been stationed at Babalola’s Lagos office to prevent any protest activities.
Meanwhile, Dele Farotimi appeared at the Ado Ekiti Magistrate Court on Tuesday for a hearing on the defamation charges against him.
