Nigerian music star Davido combined entertainment with advocacy during the launch of the 2026 FIFA World Cup countdown concert series, using his appearance to highlight the plight of schoolchildren abducted in Oyo State.
The singer took to the stage at the renowned Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, where he entertained thousands of fans with a selection of his hit songs. He later joined Major Lazer for a performance of the tournament anthem, No Place Like Home.
However, it was his outfit that drew significant attention. Davido wore a jacket bearing the names of 46 victims — 39 pupils and seven teachers — who were kidnapped during an attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The words “Bring Them Home” were boldly displayed on the back of the jacket.
The abduction, which occurred in May, sparked outrage across Nigeria and led to protests by teachers, civil society groups and concerned citizens demanding the safe return of those taken.
By bringing the issue to one of football’s biggest global platforms, the singer amplified calls for urgent action and kept attention focused on the victims.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup gets underway on June 11 at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.
