Veteran Nigerian gospel artiste Toun Soetan, popularly known as Evangelist Shouet, has died at the age of 73.
The late singer and songwriter was widely recognised for composing the popular Christian chorus Darling Jesus, a song that has remained a regular feature in church worship across Nigeria for decades.
Confirming her passing, gospel musician Peters Olaniyi Olusegun shared the sad news in a post on Facebook, mourning the loss of the respected minister.
“We just lost another legend this morning, Mummy Toun Soetan. May the Lord be with the family and Daddy Titus Soetan,” he wrote.
Also reacting, former Secretary of the Oyo State chapter of the Entertainment Writers Association of Nigeria, Kunle Bakare, described the late evangelist as a remarkable gospel minister whose works impacted many in the music ministry.
“The late gospel music player will also be remembered for her music college, where she trained so many gospel music players, most of whom are reigning today,” Bakare said.

During her lifetime, she was also known for mentoring upcoming gospel musicians through a music college she established, where she trained several artistes who are active in gospel music today.
