Bola Oyebamiji, the immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, has been confirmed as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the upcoming Osun State governorship election.
Oyebamiji’s emergence was formalized on Saturday after a motion was moved by two governorship aspirants, Kunle Adegoke (SAN) and Senator Babajide Omoworare, at the primary election venue within Ebunoluwa Group of Schools, Osogbo.
The Chairman of the APC governorship primary committee and Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, put the motion to a voice vote, which received overwhelming support from party members present. He then officially announced, “By the power conferred on me, I present to you Bola Oyebamiji, as the governorship candidate of our party.”
The APC primary in Osun State had earlier commenced in Osogbo with the arrival of Okpebholo, who explained that the candidate would be chosen by affirmation.

He was accompanied by the co-chairman, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, as well as other committee members including Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat representing the Lagos State Governor, and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
Prior to the primary, 1,660 delegates eligible to vote for the APC candidate had been selected on Tuesday. Reports indicated that all seven APC governorship aspirants in the state had stepped down to support a consensus candidate following a late-night meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, on Wednesday.
Supporting the party’s decision, former APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, said on TVC News’ Politics Tonight that he accepted the arrangement. Omisore, who was among seven aspirants disqualified by the APC Screening Committee for alleged violations of party rules, affirmed that he was guided by President Bola Tinubu in backing the consensus approach for the 2026 Osun governorship election.
