Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed strong condemnation over the recent airstrike in Sokoto State that reportedly claimed the lives of about 10 civilians in Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa communities.
In a post on his X handle, Atiku Abubakar described the incident as “an outrage that must be condemned in the strongest terms,” emphasizing the need for counter-terrorism operations to prioritize precision and irrefutable intelligence.
“The indiscriminate killing of innocent citizens—our brothers, our sisters, our neighbors—can never be justified,” he stated, reflecting on the tragic similarities with the Tudun Biri airstrike that claimed over 80 civilian lives last December.
Acknowledging the necessity of targeting terrorist groups like Lakurawa, the former Vice President stressed that such operations must not result in the loss of innocent lives, as it undermines trust and exacerbates divisions.
Meanwhile, Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu has visited the affected communities, donating ₦20 million to support the families of victims.
He assured residents that a thorough investigation would be conducted to prevent future occurrences.
