Super Falcons stars Asisat Oshoala and Rinsola Babajide have questioned the absence of recognition from the Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu following Nigeria’s triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The national team clinched their 10th WAFCON title after a 3-2 win over Morocco on Saturday, July 26.

President Bola Tinubu rewarded each player with $100,000 and a three-bedroom apartment.

In addition, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma hosted seven players and a coach from his state, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Jennifer Echegini, Osinachi Ohale, Tochukwu Oluehi, Chinwendu Ihezuo, Anam Imo and Esther Okoronkwo, giving them N30 million and a plot of land each.

Assistant coach Ann Chiejine received N10 million.

Reacting to the development, Oshoala, who is from Lagos State, shared a cryptic Instagram post that read, “My Imo sisters dey hot oo ….God abeg #Lagosian.”

Babajide, who also has Lagos roots, expressed disappointment on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Was really looking forward to meeting Babajide Sanwo-Olu but Lagos State governor no wan invite us.”

She later edited the post to read, “Lagos state governor no want invite us.”

This contrasts with previous gestures by the Lagos State Government.

In August 2023, Governor Sanwo-Olu hosted Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade and Monday Gift following their World Cup campaign.

In September 2020, Oshoala also paid a courtesy visit to the governor, where she discussed her foundation.

Although the players have not been hosted since their WAFCON win, Sanwo-Olu posted a congratulatory message on social media describing the team’s performance as “a flawless 10 out of 10.”

He wrote, “Congratulations to our incredible Super Falcons on their well-deserved WAFCON victory. This win is a reminder of what can happen when talent, discipline, and belief come together.”
