A prominent female politician in Lagos and former Welfare Secretary of the APC in the state, Alhaja Ramota Bankole is dead.
She died on Wednesday, June 20, 2024 in Saudi Arabia where she was observing the Hajj pilgrimage.
Bankole is said to be among the pilgrims who lost their lives from the heat wave that hit Makkah during the Arafat procession.
The sad incident of Alhaja Bankole’s death came just a month after she celebrated her 60th birthday. The late female politician was a prominent figure from the Epe division of Lagos.
Hon. Princess Surah O. Animashaun, the Chairman of Epe Local Government confirmed the news of Alhaja Bankole’s passing in a statement on Thursday.
It reads.. *Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’un* It’s with a heavy heart, and a deep sense of grief that I received the news of the death of Alhaja Ramota Bankole. It is a sad day indeed as I received the news that she died in the holy land of Mecca while on holy pilgrimage.I extend my condolences to the Bankole family, Apc member and entire people of Epe on the unfortunate demise of our dear Sister and Mummy. May God grant her family the fortitude to bear this unfortunate loss.”
Hon. Ismail Monsuru Akinloye, the Chairman of Eredo LCDA, Lagos State also released a statement to mourn her passing.
“The entire Eredo Local Council Development Area mourns the loss of Alhaja Ramota Bankole, a stalwart and woman of boldness in her endeavors, particularly as the former APC Welfare Officer in Lagos State. Her courageous spirit and dedication have inspired us all. Her passing at the holy land of Mecca yesterday is a testament to her deep faith and unwavering commitment to her beliefs. We join together in prayer for her soul’s peaceful journey and for solace to embrace her bereaved family during this difficult time”, his statement read.
The APC would definitely miss Bankole who died two years after Chief Kemi Nelson, who was a women leader in the party.
