Senate President Godswill Akpabio has revealed that he spent the night at the Dangote Cement factory in Obajana, Kogi State, on the wedding day of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Speaking during Thursday’s plenary, Akpabio explained that he was unable to leave Kogi that night due to poor lighting at the airport. He emphasised his close relationship with Akpoti-Uduaghan’s husband, stating that his presence at their wedding underscored his ties to the family.

“I slept in Dangote Cement factory in Obajana, Kogi State, on the night of Senator Natasha’s wedding because the Kogi airport lights were in a poor state,” Akpabio said.

His comments come amid heightened tensions following the Senate’s decision to suspend Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months. The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions had found her guilty of misconduct and recommended her suspension, along with the withdrawal of her salary and security details.

The committee also mandated that she apologise to the Senate and stay away from the National Assembly premises throughout her suspension. The Senate adopted the recommendations, with Akpabio officially announcing the suspension during plenary.
