Nollywood actress Aisha Lawal has explained her decision to conceal her daughter’s face at a recent party after the actress faced criticism over the move.

The controversy began after a video from Rakeem’s birthday party showed Lawal covering her daughter’s face with the hat she was wearing as they arrived at the venue.

A woman filming their arrival was heard mentioning the girl’s name and school, prompting Lawal to immediately shield her daughter’s face from the camera.

Speaking during an interview with Morayo Afolabi Brown, the Yoruba actress said the decision was deliberate because of the circumstances surrounding her daughter’s birth.

Lawal disclosed that she became pregnant with Zara and her twin brother while she was in her 30s, but the boy later died.

She said the experience she went through before having her daughter influenced her decision to keep Zara away from social media and the public eye.

“Yes, I deliberately covered my daughter’s face at Rakeem’s birthday party because she is the product of my first pregnancy. I became pregnant with them when I was in my 30s, and did you know she had a twin brother who later left?

“I want you all to understand what I went through before having her. I don’t want my daughter Zara to be on the internet at all because I’m not comfortable with the way some people bully children. I don’t care about the backlash online.”

She also explained that the same principle informed her choice to keep her partner and the father of her children away from public attention.

“I also deliberately kept my partner and the father of my children away from the public space because I discovered that whatever is covered or concealed is treated with honour and respect.”

Lawal said her decision to protect her daughter from public exposure was not influenced by the criticism she received online.
