Senator representing Ogun West, Solomon Adeola, has met with former lawmaker Iyabo Obasanjo to seek her backing ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
On April 13, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun announced Adeola as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship race.
Speaking at a party caucus meeting in Abeokuta, the governor said the decision followed wide consultations within the party leadership, aimed at promoting unity and continuity.
Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, had earlier indicated interest in the governorship race but stepped down after the party settled on a consensus candidate. She, however, raised concerns about the process, alleging that some of her supporters were denied access to the meeting venue.
On Tuesday, Adeola visited her in Abeokuta alongside former deputy governors Segun Adesegun and Salmot Badru, as well as other APC stakeholders.
During the visit, Adeola commended her for what he described as her “maturity and magnanimity” in accepting the party’s decision.
“Shortly after the party picked me as the consensus governorship candidate, my dear sister, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, issued a public statement aligning with the party and promised to work with me,” he said, according to The Punch.

“I was honoured by her gesture and immediately reached out to thank her. I also pledged to work with her and her team.
“To whom much is given, much is expected. That is why I am here today—to ensure we work together for the progress of our dear state.”
Adeola also assured her supporters of inclusion in party activities and decision-making processes.
“I am part and parcel of the Iyabo Obasanjo caucus. There is nothing to worry about. Everything is on the table, and we will work together,” he said.
“I won’t let you down. Your people will be part of our meetings. Nobody will be left behind. Let us remain united and continue working for the success of our party and the state.”
In her response, Obasanjo said she had instructed her supporters to work for the success of the APC in the state. She also pledged support for Adeola, President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, and other party candidates.
