The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has dismantled an international cocaine trafficking syndicate allegedly using Nigeria as a transit point for the distribution of illicit drugs to the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia.

The agency also announced the arrest of Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known as “KC Luxury”, whom it identified as the alleged Nigerian coordinator of the cartel.

NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), disclosed the development while addressing journalists in Lagos on Tuesday.

According to Marwa, the investigation began after operatives intercepted 184.50kg of cocaine concealed in a consignment being processed for export through a courier logistics company in Lagos.

He described the seizure as the largest quantity of cocaine intercepted through a courier company in Nigeria, adding that the cartel allegedly expected to make as much as N39bn from the shipment.

“The operation began with the interception of a consignment of 184.50 kilograms of cocaine concealed for onward export through a courier logistics channel in Lagos. Given the scale of the seizure, I immediately directed the constitution of a Special Investigation Team, with a mandate to trace the entire network behind the shipment, from the couriers to the masterminds. The cartel was hoping to realise as much as N39 billion from the consignment through their international distribution network,” Marwa said.

The NDLEA boss said investigators, working with the courier company, uncovered several intermediary businesses and individuals allegedly involved in processing and moving the shipments.

One of the suspects identified was Lawal Mujab Kehinde, a staff member of the logistics company. Marwa said investigations linked him directly to the cartel’s Nigerian coordinator and allegedly showed that he processed consignments destined for the UK, other European countries and Asia in exchange for cash.

The agency also identified Afolabi as the alleged Nigerian arrowhead of the syndicate.

“The second and more prominent suspect is Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known online as “KC Luxury,” whom investigations identified as the Nigerian arrowhead of the cartel. Parading as a social media influencer and businessman dealing in gold, jewellery, and luxury goods, Afolabi used his glamorous public image to disguise a criminal enterprise moving cocaine along a pipeline stretching from South America, through Nigeria, to the United Kingdom, other parts of Europe and Asia,” Marwa said.

Afolabi was arrested at the boarding gate of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on August 13, 2026, after intelligence reportedly indicated that he was preparing to leave Nigeria for Paris on a business-class flight.

NDLEA said operatives recovered €7,750, £2,800 and N100,000 in cash from him, alongside expensive jewellery.

A search of his luxury apartment on Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos, also resulted in the recovery of several exotic vehicles, according to Marwa.

Investigators further discovered that the syndicate allegedly used fake identities to hide the actual consignors of its drug shipments and relied on financial intermediaries to move billions of naira.

Marwa said some suspected members of the same network had also been arrested by authorities in the UK.

He linked the latest breakthrough to other recent NDLEA operations against international drug networks, including the dismantling of the Switzerland-based Simon Amadi cartel and two Nigerian-Mexican methamphetamine syndicates operating clandestine laboratories in Ogun and Oyo states.

According to Marwa, traffickers have increasingly turned to courier and logistics companies as alternative channels after increased scrutiny at airports and seaports.

He said the latest investigation demonstrated the agency’s ability to pursue drug networks regardless of where they operate.

“These operations send an unmistakable signal that this Agency’s reach extends into the ports, the forests, the luxury apartments, and the departure lounges alike, and that no sanctuary exists anywhere in Nigeria for those who traffic in poison,” he said.

“There is no alternative route into or out of Nigeria for illicit drugs that this Agency cannot police,” Marwa added.

He also credited international cooperation for the operation, noting that suspected members of the network were arrested in Nigeria and the UK around the same period.

Marwa commended the Special Investigation Team and the agency’s international partners for their role in tracking the alleged syndicate.

He warned individuals who allegedly use luxury lifestyles and social media influence to conceal drug activities that the agency would continue pursuing them.

“To those who believe they can hide behind luxury brands, glamorous lifestyles, and social media personas while trafficking poison into our communities and across our borders, this Agency will find you,” he said.
