President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday held a series of closed-door meetings with senior government officials and political figures at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, just hours before the official commencement of campaigns for the 2027 general elections.
The meetings took place ahead of the August 19, 2026 campaign commencement date set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, arrived at the forecourt of the President’s office at about 6:12pm in his official S-Class Mercedes-Benz.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, was reportedly already meeting with Tinubu when Akpabio arrived.
Also sighted at the Villa was the member representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency of Kano State in the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, who arrived at about 7:15pm.
His arrival came roughly 20 minutes after the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, was seen entering the premises.
Doguwa had earlier participated in the National Peace Committee’s signing of the peace accord involving political parties and candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
Oyetola’s visit to the Presidential Villa came days after his successor as Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, was declared winner of the August 15 governorship election in the state.

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, was also seen at the Villa during the series of meetings. His visit may have been connected to preparations for the Federal Executive Council meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
The specific agenda of the separate meetings was not made public, as none of the officials spoke with journalists after their visits.
The closed-door engagements came as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general election, with INEC fixing August 19, 2026, as the date for the formal commencement of campaigns.
