Nigerian content creator Ademola Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Chicken, has been arraigned before a magistrate’s court in Ogba, Lagos, over an alleged death threat directed at Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu.

The social media personality was brought before Magistrate M.F. Onamusi on Friday on a three-count charge bordering on alleged threat to kill, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and offences under the Cybercrime Act.

The charges followed a video he shared online last week in which he declared that President Tinubu would not secure re-election in 2027.

In the video, which has since been deleted, DJ Chicken allegedly stated in Yorùbá:

“Tinubu you cannot win. If you enter, I will kill Seyi Tinubu. I will not say more than that”.

After the clip sparked widespread reactions, the content creator issued a public apology, insisting the statement was merely intended as content and not a genuine threat.

“I only want to use Baba to shine. I only want to use Baba and Seyi Tinubu to gain fame. Baba will win for the second time. But I will collect my money,” he wrote on Instagram.

“Seyi Tinubu you cannot die. I cannot kill you. We are only creating content. You know I am a comedian.”

Despite the apology, prosecutors proceeded with charges against him.

The first count alleged that he uploaded a video threatening the life of Seyi Tinubu on his social media platforms, an offence punishable under Section 232 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The second count accused him of transmitting a grossly offensive and threatening message in violation of Section 24 of the Cybercrime Act, 2015.

The third count stated that his actions were capable of causing a breach of public peace and were intended to intimidate or embarrass the President, contrary to Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

DJ Chicken pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The court granted him ₦1 million bail with two sureties in the same amount. One surety must be a government employee, while the other must be a recognised community leader with landed property in Lagos.

The court further directed that both sureties provide three years’ tax clearance, LASRRA identification, National Identification Number (NIN) and utility bills. It also ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendant.

Pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions, Magistrate Onamusi ordered that DJ Chicken be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

The matter was adjourned until August 3, 2026.
